Your country's leader has signed several agreements with Germany, especially aimed against the Soviet Union. You are no friend of Britain's, given that you want to expand your new empire in east Africa. But, you are no real friend of Germany's, either. You did threaten war against Germany in 1934, when Hitler first talked about annexing Austria. The two of you did work together loosely in providing assistance to France in the Spanish Civil War. But Germany has annexed Austria, and now German troops fight there, on your northern border. You are interested in getting from France some of the territory along the north western border you share with France, and that once considered Italian, in language and culture. However, in this crisis situation, you have no intention of helping Germany should Germany go to war against anyone. You created the Munich conference a year ago; this time, Hitler has created his own mess and you are quite willing to let him stew in it.
