Diseno- a hand-made map that Mexican citizens used to claim huge pieces of land.

Land was measured in terms of leagues or varas. (5,000 varas was equal to one league, or 2.6 miles.)

Boundaries were usually natural land formations. Such as rivers, streams, a grove of trees, a pile of large boulders, foothills, lakes, ponds, and mountains.

There were very few buildings or structures other than the missions and pueblos.
