Write an Explorer's Journal
After studying the California desert explorers assemble sheets
of lined or unlined paper.
Students may use the Indian Leather that they made in an earlier project to make a leather binding for their journal pages.
Begin Journal Writing
Have the students select a date in the 1770's to the 1890's and begin writing a journal of their imagined experiences in the California desert.
Students can write in their journal over a period of weeks outlining their desert adventures.
Grade the student projects on a scale of 1 - 6 (high). Students can receive the maximum score of 6 if they write their journal on Indian Leather and include several weeks of desert adventures including illustrations and maps.
