I am Irataba, chief of the Mojaves. In 1864 Harper's Magazine visited our tribe. They described me this way:

"He is 55 years old, 6 feet in height, and was able to march 50 miles a day through the desert."

The writer said our tribe was very intelligent and numbers 6000 men.

We planted corn and squash along the fertile (rich soil for growing crops) banks of the Colorado River.
