The Russians captured the Aleutian and Kodiak Indians and forced them to hunt sea otter. In the year 1811, Captain Whittemore took about 30 Kodiak Indians to San Nicolas Island. He left them there for a year to hunt sea otter. They had guns and killed all of the island men.
