Welcome to California's newest adventure in technology and wonderful support for beginning teachers or those new to teaching grades two, three or four.
The California History-Social Science Course Models offer lessons, and provide teaching strategies to promote learning of our state's social studies content standards. Models for grades two, three and four have recently been updated to include the latest version of the standards and an alignment to the California History-Social Science Framework. Grade five will be ready soon. The course models are wonderful supplements to text materials and are available from the California Department of Education. They may be printed off at no cost from the California Department of Education website at http://www.history.ctaponline.org/center/index.cfm?un=65v36cor or from the grade level homepages from grades 2, 3, and 4 at SCORE History-Social Science http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/standards/.
A great new option is becoming available during the Fall of 2000. Training on the course models will be on-line and ready for teachers to complete at their own pace. Online resources will include adopted California History-Social Science Content Standards, an introduction to the Standards, model lessons, sample teacher materials, student projects, mentor teacher presentations, audio and video instructional clips, teacher interviews, and Internet links. In the "Virtual Teacher's Lounge" participants interact with other teachers through discussion boards and chat rooms, sharing ideas and student work.
Participants may "audit" the course for $145* or enroll for three units of continuing education credit from CSU Chico for $280*. Here is your link to the H/SS Course Models online professional development http://www.history.ctaponline.org/
