King Leopold's "Heart of Darkness"

Description: In 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium gained a vast area in central Africa as his personal possession. His greed and the system of forced labor he imposed there prompted the first human rights movement of the 20th century. His actions are a model of the worst of the imperialism movement. Later Ottomans and the Impact of Europe

Description: The Ottoman sultans' fascination with European art was an example of the declining empire?s attempt to solve its problems with the adoption of European systems of law, military, and even dress.
