Spinning wheels and looms brought across the plains and around the Horn. Some were constructed

at the fort by John Marshall. The weavers created cloth spunfrom the wool of Sutter's 4000 sheep.

This cloth was used for blankets, clothes and other fineries. Blankets were traded to the

local Indians for their labor. In good weather the looms were set up outside.
