Ancient Civilizations: Medieval and Early Modern Times

Purpose of Lesson:
This activity is designed to help students gain an understanding of the history of Mongolian culture through making inferences about Mongolian artwork.

Length of Lesson:
This activity was designed for two hours per day for one week. However, this activity is highly adaptable in length because it is broken down into various steps that may or may not all be used.

Teacher Materials:
Students will use a variety materials and resources including:

Interdisciplinary Connections:
English/Language Arts: Students could write the diary of Genghis Kahn based on their textbook readings and the historical sites listed in the resources section of the student activity.

Mathematics: Students could map the routes the Mongolians took during their invasions and estimate the length of time taken and the number of soldiers needed for each conquest.

Visual Arts: Students could create a pictorial history of the life of Genghis Kahn.

Adaptations to Special Needs:
This lesson is designed with several "Steps," many of which do not need to be followed exactly as they are written. To adapt this lesson to a variety of student levels, the teacher can use one or more of the following suggestions:
